It's so wonderful to be here in Boulder with my wonderful boyfriend, and to see our friends! We've already seen Graham and Amanda yesterday, when we went on a hike with Graham and then added Amanda for dinner on the always awesome Pearl Street. We're about to head over to their house shortly for dinner, including Dinner Roast which I almost forgot. Of course I'm sad not to be with my parents and sisters, but I am very happy and joyful and thankful! I have so many blessings in my life, so many awesome people and great opportunities.
I am so thankful!

Looks like I picked up
dawnd's sore throat and low-grade fever from last week... I feel icky and achey and like I should be careful about exposing anyone else. So I'm going to have to punt on going to the Choirloft group dinner today.
patgreene and the three boys will go on without me, I'll stay home alone, maybe they'll bring me a plate tonight. Sorry I'll miss seeing those of you attending there today. :(

Most of you know I'm vegetarian. Most of you also know that to me, it's a personal choice, and I'm totally okay with you all making your own choices on this issue. Just so we're clear that this isn't meant to be a guilt trip or a protest. What I'm writing about here isn't the killing of the animals, but rather the othering (and the use of charged words in service of that) of traditions from other cultures.
However, the day before yesterday, Toronto's free Metro newspaper ran this story, which has the headline, "Mass animal sacrifice begins in Hindu festival in Nepal; 200,000 animals to be killed".
It's worth noting that the animals slaughtered are taken back to the villages where the meat is eaten.
I find the running of this clearly-intended-to-be-alarming headline highly ironic just two days before American Thanksigiving and just a month after Canadian Thanksgiving. (According to this page, more than 45 million turkeys are cooked and eaten in the U.S. on Thanksgiving. I don't have figures for Canada, but in general you can divide the U.S. figure by ten for most things. Note that both of these figures are much higher than 200,000.)
Are people really that blind that they can shake their heads and say, "Those terrible foreign primitives! Oh, hey, that reminds me, I need to pick up a Turkey for Thanksgiving on the way home. La la la." WTF, newspaper?
Anyway, I really do hope that everyone who celebrates it is having a great Thanksgiving. :)

More on Corunea Battles

Well, the announcement about changes to Corunea Battles is out, and the big restructuring that was supposed to make me so happy appears to be:
This does seem to be an attempt to address a very small amount of my comments to the game -- basically my, "I don't think your business model is viable," comments -- but it doesn't even glance at the majority of what I wrote. As such, I'm a little bewildered as to why they thought I'd be so thrilled. Also, the fact that I won't be able to pay for free clearly goes against the parts where I said that they weren't presenting enough information for me to consider buying the game a viable investment. So... *shrug* I do like the game, and part of me will want to register, but I'm not sure there's enough to it to justify it.
- The site is down until the 28th.
- There will be no free play any longer. There will be an up-to-level-three demo, and then you must pay to play.
- All purchases of in-game money ("Coruns") will be refunded.
- All accounts will be deleted and the game world will be reset.

To avoid the hassle of re-screening all the screened comments after replying, I'll just say that everyone who left a request on the previous post was nominated. It usually takes a few days for them to actually send you an invite after you're nominated, but you should get an invitation soonish. I actually have four nomination slots left. I think Google Wave is starting to hit the point where everyone who wants on in my social cloud is now on it.
However,
r_ness raised an important issue: A lot of you are on there, but we aren't connected! If y ou'd like to be, I'm irfon.kim@googlewave.com on there. (I did add you,
r_ness.) Feel free to add me and/or drop your contact information here so folks can add you. (Comments to this post aren't screened -- if you want to drop your contact information without others being able to see it, or if you still need an invite, you can drop those on my previous post here, which has all comments screened.)
However,
