My new Nissan Versa

Yesterday, on my birthday, I bought a new car!

I spent all day researching cars, creating a spreadsheet in Google Docs, after finding out how much it would cost to fix my old Honda Civic. Ironically, when I came across the car I ended up buying, I almost instantly dismissed it and only wrote down the name on my spreadsheet.

The three top contenders on my list, the Honda Fit, Toyota Prius, and Honda Civic Hybrid, were all a bit disappointing when we saw them... they all felt very plastic-y and cheap yet cost a decent amount. When leaving the local Honda dealer I asked if they had anything else in my price range (around 20k or less) and would be good for a commuter car. The salesman suggested the Nissan Versa. Considering my primary interests were a bust, we thought we'd at least take a look.

Turns out we loved it, at least the sedan version. It's taller than the other compact cars which meant the sitting position was a lot more comfortable on my previously-broken right ankle. Today I noticed I was about a foot higher than most compact car drivers on the road.

Since it's a cheap car, around $15k base like the Fit and Yaris, I was able to add basically every package, which makes for quite a nice car. Bluetooth, great satellite radio, ABS, CVT, sun roof, etc. It has better gas mileage than my last car, but still no hybrid. Maybe next time!

It's silver with a charcoal interior:

It's Car Time! I was just thinking this morning of how we bought a new car this spring and [info]clawfoot's Mom did too, and right above this post on my friends list is another post about getting a new car.

Do you watch Heroes?

Congratulations on the wheels!

Crazy. It appears to be like that with glasses too... Karen had to get glasses last week, then broke her spare and had to get a second pair. Yesterday, my six year old glasses randomly broke too. And I saw another person on my LJ just got new glasses.

Yeah, we watch Heroes and love it. Just two more episodes!

Yeah, we love it too. :) I was wondering if that influenced the Nissan Versa decision at all. :)

Very nice, my friend! Lookin good. Nissans come with Sirius, correct? If so, let me recommend channel 24. Its 90's alternative station. Total memory lane for our generation! :-) enjoy!

Thanks. Nissans randomly come with both. They're transitioning to XM. I've been a Sirius subscriber for a year and have enjoyed it, but the new car is XM and it's almost $5/month cheaper and they have all the same channels (just different names). I checked that XM supported Macs though before I bought the car! :-P

Happy belated. Congrats on the new ride. Seems to be getting great reviews. Your Versa has plenty more options than my Maxima. It really fits the market of bargain + lots of features. My Max 3.5L v6 gets around 23mpg with mixed city / hwy driving.

Thanks. I love it the Versa. I won't know the average mileage until perhaps late next week though. I'm hoping it'll be better than my old `96 civic, which did about 30mpg average.

Awesome! I'm so jealous that you have a new car and I don't have any :-)

Enjoy the ride.

Thanks.

At the same time, I'm jealous that you don't have to spend an hour or more a day sitting in a car doing nothing but driving. At least in a train you can pull out a laptop or book and do some actual work. I can't wait until cars drive themselves!

Yes, it is more productive, but I miss rollin' down the windows and singing at the top of my lungs...
